EdCC Men's Soccer Falls in League Opener to HCC

JJ Schmeck scored EdCC's lone goal Wednesday

LYNNWOOD – The EdCC men’s soccer team lost to visiting Highline CC 3-1 Wednesday night at Triton Field in the team’s league opener. With the loss the Tritons fall to 0-3 on the season, 0-1 in league play. The Thunderbirds improved to 1-1-1, 1-0 league.

Though EdCC lost, the team generated plenty of good chances but was only able to convert on one. That came in the 20th minute when JJ Schmeck dribbled past the Thunderbird defense slipped a shot past keeper Grayson Raffensperger, giving the Tritons an early 1-0 lead.

That lead would last just five minutes as HCC’s Brandon Madsen would even the score with a goal. Teammate Garrett Brewer gave the Thunderbirds a 2-1 advantage with a goal in minute 21.

The two sides went into the break with HCC up 2-1. Italo Mota scored eleven minutes in the second stanza to put the Thunderbirds up 3-1. That would be the final goal of the game despite opportunities for both sides.

The match was an offensive-minded one that saw HCC attempt 17 shots with EdCC taking eight. Raffensperger turned back five attempts on goal with Triton keeper Arturo Oberto rejecting six – including three diving or leaping saves.

Isidro Prado-Huerta assisted in all three Highline goals.

Edmonds welcomes Olympic College on Thursday, September 11, for a 7:15 p.m. region tilt under the lights.
