Volleyball Falls to Shoreline in Heartbreaker

Carly Sims recorded 11 kills Wednesday
box score

LYNNWOOD -- Edmonds CC volleyball opened up league play against Shoreline Wednesday night in Seaview gym. The Tritons and Dolphins battled for five sets with the visiting Shoreline eventually prevailing 3-2 (25-11, 23-25, 17-25, 25-13, 15-12).

The Dolphins outhit the Tritons .133 to .064, mainly due to a pair of dominating set wins. Yet, despite this -- and a 25-11 loss in the opening set, Edmonds was in a good position to take the conference match. That's because the Tritons took the next two sets, 25-23 and 25-17 and were ahead 2-1.

Just as in the first set, Shoreline cruised to an easy set four win 25-13 to even the match at 2-2. The Dolphins opened up a four-point lead in the deciding fifth set only to see EdCC charge back to even the score at 11-11.

SCC won the next three points and were a point from taking the match. The Tritons came back to win the next point. A serve by EdCC looked like an ace but a foot-fault was called to give the Dolphins the match.

Both teams made 12 service errors in the five-setter, but SCC had distinct advantages in kills (51-33), assists (47-32) and digs (78-73), though EdCC had the advantage in team blocks (9-5).

Two Tritons: Carly Sims and Gabi Mahler posted double-digit winners, 11 and 10 respectively. Newcomer Mariah Martin dished out 29 assists and had 19 digs. Delaney Watson had 14 digs in the loss with Mahler digging out 11 and blocking 3 shots.

The Dolphins (2-7, 1-0 North) were paced by Anya Golubitskikh's 19 kills. M'Kailah Redden had 17 kills in the win. Malia Parilla contributed 37 assists.

Edmonds (0-13, 0-1 North) will host Whatcom Friday at 7 p.m.
