OREGON CITY -- The Tritons scored a season-high in points when they defeated Yakima Valley 114-69 Sunday afternoon in game two of the Clackamas Holiday Classic. Charlie Smith led Edmonds with 25 points on an 8-for-10 shooting performance. Smith also pulled down 7 rebounds.
With the win the Tritons improved to 8-3 on the year and advances in the winner's bracket to play Tacoma CC at 5 p.m. Monday. The winner of that contest reaches Tuesday's championship game.
EdCC shot an impressive 57 percent from the floor Sunday and made 9-of-19 (47%) 3-pointers. Additionally, the Tritons made 37 shots from the free-throw line and out rebounded the Yaks by a 53-26 margin.
The Tritons scored 23 points off of 14 YVCC turnovers and got 55 points from the bench.
Yakima Valley (2-10) lost for the third time in as many games to EdCC, shooting just 32 percent Sunday afternoon.
Besides Smith, five other EdCC players reached double-figures in points. Devin Stoen had 18 points and 4 assists, Zach Pederson scored 18 and pulled in 8 rebounds, Blake Fernandez had 15 points, Sam Omondi added 12 points and 7 boards and Jas Coulson had 10 points and 3 assists.
Tacoma (3-6) defeated Linn-Benton 91-62 in another opening-round game Sunday.
