Umut Akkepenek scored 22 points for Edmonds on Wednesday |
LYNNWOOD – The Edmonds CC Tritons (3-2) climbed above .500 on the
season after defeating Yakima Valley CC 103-77 Wednesday night in Seaview Gym.
The Tritons were paced by 22 points from Umut Akkepenek and 21 points from Zach
Pederson.
EdCC started slowly, however, and trailed 13-5 seven minutes
into the first half. But a 17-2 run reversed the tide and put Edmonds out in front for good. The
Tritons entered the break with a 46-32 advantage and had game-best 30-point lead with 2:20
to go in the game.
A field goal by Alec Calloway with 41 seconds left put the
Tritons over the 100-point mark. The last time the Tritons scored triple figures was last
December against South Puget Sound.
Edmonds shot 55 percent Wednesday, scored 19 points off of
turnovers and outrebounded YVCC 56-42. The Triton bench had a major impact and contributed 49
points in the win.
Akkepenek was 7-for-7 from the field and made a pair of
three-pointers. Pederson was 8-of-12. Sam Omondi and Destine Kawaka added 14
and 10 points, respectively. Omondi had nine rebounds to lead EdCC.
The Yaks shot 39 percent. Marshaun Williams had 18 points to lead YVCC (2-6).
The Tritons will be at home this Friday for a 7 p.m. contest
against Green River. The Gators beat EdCC 76-61 on November 25.
