EdCC Opens League Play Victorious

box score

LYNNWOOD -- The NWAC No. 4-ranked Tritons opened up North region play by defeating a game Peninsula team 66-59 in Seaview Gym Saturday afternoon. Edmonds improved to 12-2 overall, 1-0 North while the Pirates fell to 7-8 overall, 0-1.

Though the lead only changed hands twice, the game was tied on six different occasions and was close throughout. However, it looked early on that the Tritons had a chance to run away when the home team took a 16-7 lead. That advantage soon evaporated and it was Peninsula that went into halftime up 32-29.

EdCC chased the Pirates for most of the second half and finally overtook the visitors late into the stanza thanks in a large part to Zach Walton, Loren LaCasse and Dylan Carter who scored 16, 13 and 12 points, respectively in the game. LaCasse would add 14 rebounds.

Defense played a large part int the low-scoring contest but neither team was very effective shooting. The Tritons shot just 37 percent Saturday, while the Pirates were good just 30 percent to the time. Both squads struggled beyond the arc too, EdCC making just 4-25 (16%), PeC good only 5-22 (22.7%).

Leading the Pirates with 25 points was Darrion Daniels.

The Tritons will be on the road for their next two games. On Wednesday, the team will be at Everett for a 7 pm tip. The Trojans upset #2 Whatcom 72-66 Saturday. On Saturday, EdCC heads to Bellingham to take on Whatcom. Start time is 3 pm.
