The Tritons played in front of a large crowd Saturday |
The EdCC basketball teams notched a sweep of visiting
Shoreline CC in Seaview Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. The Triton women rallied
from an early deficit to top the Dolphins 67-63, while the NWAC No. 3-ranked
Edmonds men cruised to the 92-58 triumph in front of a large crowd boosted by
students from Viewlands Elementary.
The women opened up the North Region twinbill. Shoreline
went up by seven points early on but the Tritons narrowed the gap to three
points by the end of the first quarter and then used a 15-6 second quarter to
enter intermission with a 32-26 advantage.
The Dolphins came right back and took a brief lead in the
third quarter before EdCC eventually pulled ahead for good late in the fourth.
EdCC received contributions from everyone. It was Asiyah
Davis leading the scoring with 21 points and 6 rebounds. Ellie Greene added 19
points, 6 boards and 3 assists. Shaleea Butler pulled in 13 rebounds and scored
5 points with Jade Garcia-Williams, Adelisa Husovic and Gabi Lofgren all contributing
6 points.
The Tritons shot 42 percent from the field and were solid at
the line, going 20-24 there as a team.
Enjunay Jones-Lee had 25 points to lead SCC.
The men took the court next and continued their winning ways
with a 34-point win over the Dolphins. The Tritons shot 47 percent in the game
and outrebounded the visitors by 10 (36-26). In addition, EdCC poured in 11
3-pointers.
Leading the charge offensively was Loren LaCasse with
another double-double, 16 points and 12 boards. Jas Coulson added 14 points and
4 assists with Zach Walton scoring 13 points and dishing out 5 assists. Dylan
Carter also had 13 points with Gio Williams contributing 11 points in the win.
The Dolphins struggled shooting, making just 20-68 (29
percent). Joe Ghebrehiwot led SCC with 16 points.
The Triton men improved to 15-3 overall, 4-1 North and
dropped Shoreline to 7-9, 2-3.
Both EdCC squads are on the road Wednesday, traveling to
Olympic College for a twinbill. The women start at 5 pm, the men at 7 pm.
Edmonds welcomes Skagit Valley to Seaview on Saturday (2 pm women, 4 pm men).
