Softball Opens 2016 With a Bang

RICHLAND -- The EdCC softball team opened the 2016 season by recording three wins over NWAC East teams as part of the Preseason Tournament in the Tri-Cities. Edmonds recorded two wins on Saturday, defeating Wenatchee Valley 12-7 and Big Bend 8-7, On Sunday the Tritons routed Treasure Valley 19-2 before dropping the finale 10-2 to Blue Mountain.

Three contests were halted due to the 8 run mercy rule with game two vs Big Bend a walk-off win for Edmonds. 

The Tritons batted .342 as a team and blasted 5 home runs. Hitting round-trippers was Maddie Wood, Paige Matsuki (2), KamrynMae Kanae and Antionette Watson. Kanae had 8 RBI over the weekend with Matsuki driving in 7 and both Wood and Kristina West plating 5 runners. 

Chantel Brown scored 8 times as did Matsuki, with West scoring 7 times in the four games. 

Pitcher Haley Malakowski saw action in all four games and went 3-1 for EdCC. The freshman hurler fanned 16 batters in 20.2 innings of work. Madison Budnick pitched in two contests. 

The Tritons will be in Lacey, WA, for the NWAC Interegion Tournament this Saturday. EdCC has its home opener on Tuesday, March 8, welcoming Big Bend for a DH that starts at 3 pm.
