box score

LYNNWOOD - The EdCC men's basketball team rallied from a 10-point halftime defect to defeat visiting South Puget Sound CC Wednesday night in Seaview Gym, 86-74.

With an 85-73 win in Olympia earlier in the year, the Tritons swept the non-league home-and-away series with the Clippers and improved to 5-2 on the year.

Edmonds came out of the gate red-hot Wednesday, taking an 8-0 and a 15-6 lead over SPSCC. The Clippers stormed back to tie the game at 15-15, however. The two sides traded shots for awhile but South Puget Sound would go up by as much as 12 points before heading into the break with a 49-39 advantage.

The Clippers (4-6), which knocked off #1-ranked Spokane on Monday, would lose some of their shooting touch in the second stanza while the Tritons, led by Zach Pederson, warmed up. The deficit was just one point at the 14:34 mark and a bucket by Sam Omondi at 11:01 tied the game at 60-60.

A 3-pointer from Blake Fernandez put EdCC ahead for the first time in a long time. The Clippers hung tough for awhile but a pair of free throws and a jumper from Omondi put Edmonds ahead by four and the team would never look back.

The Tritons stretched their lead to 13 points just two minutes later and that was basically the ball game.

Pederson led EdCC with 26 points and 10 rebounds with Charlie Smith adding 15 points and Destine Kawaka contributing 13 points.

Four Clippers scored in double-figures led by Jordan Higgins and Elijah Sanders, each of whom scored 15.

Edmonds had a slim advantage in shooting percentage (42 to 39 percent), but out rebounded the Clippers 54-44. What kept SPSCC in the game early was free throws. The Clippers made their first 16 attempts from the stripe and ended up going 22-28.

The Tritons head over to South Puget Sound on Friday to participate in a NWAC Crossover Tournament. EdCC's first tilt is versus Yakima Valley Friday at 2 pm.

box score

LYNNWOOD -- Edmonds Community College got a measure of revenge Friday night in Seaview Gym when the Tritons defeated Green River 88-82 in an overtime thriller. The Gators topped EdCC 76-61 earlier in the year. Friday's win pushed EdCC's season record to 4-2.

Zach Pederson led Edmonds with 21 points and 11 rebounds but it was Charlie Smith and his four three-pointers that were the difference. Three of Smith's treys came in during the last seven minutes of Friday's non-league tilt and two were on back-to-back possessions in overtime.

The score went back-and-forth all game. Edmonds trailed by as much as six in the first but went into the break with a six-point lead. The Gators stormed back and retook the lead at 15:55 in the second stanza. The Tritons fell behind by as many as seven points (71-64) with six minutes remaining in regulation.

Buckets by Smith, Sam Omondi and two free throws by Pederson brought EdCC to within one. But the Gatos would hold off the Tritons and be in front by four with just 46 seconds left. Pederson sank a jumper and Smith would force a steal on the next Gator possession which led to a bucket by Destine Kawaka. That shot evened the score at 77-77.

A Green River offensive foul gave Edmonds the opportunity to win the game in regulation by Jas Coulson's layup circled in and out of the hoop when time expired.

Pederson made the first basket of overtime, followed by another by Omondi (who would score 19 points). The Gators evened the score with four consecutive points and eventually led by one until the back-to-back threes from Smith gave EdCC the lead for good.

Edmonds shot 45 percent and scored 27 points on three-pointers. The Gators shot 49 percent and had 24 points off of treys. The Tritons out-rebounded GRCC 40-33.

Blake Fernandez added 11 points and five assists for EdCC.
