The Edmonds CC men's basketball team split its first two games of the 2014-15 season this past weekend, defeating South Puget Sound 85-73 in Olympia on Friday before dropping a 51-50 heartbreaker in Seaview Gym to Blue Mountain CC on Saturday.

Against SPSCC the Tritons shot just 37.5 percent (28-78) but managed to take 16 more shots than the Clippers did. The team was led by 19 points from Devin Stoen. Charlie Smith chipped in with 15 points with Blake Fernandez and Zach Pederson contributing 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Fernandez pulled down eight rebounds and had a team-best four assists.

Leading SPSCC was Elijah Sanders with 25 points and eight boards. The Clippers shot 41.8 percent and pulled down 45 rebounds.

Edmonds had a mere two-point lead heading into halftime (37-35) but pulled away from SPSCC in the second by going on a 12-0 run to start the stanza. EdCC would eventually win by 12.

The Tritons had another sub par shooting night against the Timberwolves on Saturday, making just 19-66 (28.8%) of their attempts. Edmonds was good on just 3-15 three-pointers as well.

The game was a back-and forth wit each side struggling to make a shot. The teams were squared up a 23-23 at intermission but the Tritons went ahead by seven points in the second. Blue Mountain fought back and led by one point with 14 seconds left.

Charlie Smith made a layup with seven seconds to go to put EdCC up by one, but the Timberwolves would silence Seaview when Jarrell Bell dished off a pass to Max Mueller who laid in the ball with 0.7 seconds to go. That would be the game-winner.

Smith scored 13 points for Edmonds with Sam Omondi pulling down 11 boards. Muller led BMCC with 19 points.

The Tritons travel to Green River CC on Tuesday, November 25, for a non-conference tilt that starts at 7 p.m.
