LYNNWOOD – The EdCC women’s soccer team defeated Skagit
Valley 4-0 Saturday afternoon at Triton Field. Four different Tritons scored
against the Cardinals with the keeper tandem of Alecia Longsine and Peyton
Pruett combining on the shutout. It was the third-straight triumph for EdCC.
The win gave Edmonds – which is third in the NWAC North
standings – some separation between it and fourth-place Whatcom. The Tritons
(9-4-1, 7-4-1 League, 22 points) are six points ahead of the Orcas. EdCC also
trails Shoreline by three points.
Since only the top three of each region qualifies for the postseason, the Tritons need to maintain their position.
Since only the top three of each region qualifies for the postseason, the Tritons need to maintain their position.
The NWAC North 3-seed will travel to the East #2 seed for a
Quarterfinal playoff game. At this point that team is Treasure Valley – the furthest
trip in the NWAC outside of Southwest Oregon. If EdCC can climb to second in
the standings, the Tritons would host a Quarterfinal game instead of traveling.
After a few missed opportunities Saturday, the Tritons
finally got on the board with a Hannah Longsine to Keana King goal in the
32nd minute. Five minutes later Riquelle Weaver gave EdCC a 2-0 advantage when
she headed in a corner from Olivia Olason.
The two teams went into the break with Edmonds ahead 2-0.
Lexie Gray put one into the Skagit goal in the 62nd minute and Evelyn
Barrientos scored the last goal of the game in the 89th minute for the 4-0
final. Lauren Rodger assisted on the last two scores.
The Cardinals fell to 3-9-2, 2-8-2 League and are last in
the North following the loss.
The Tritons next host first-place Everett (13-2, 11-1) this
Wednesday at 5 pm. The Trojans defeated EdCC 2-1 earlier in the season.
