Claudia Brasino scored against Whatcom |
WHATCOM – The EdCC Tritons snapped a 3-game skid last week
with a win at Green River. The squad followed
that with a 1-0 triumph at Whatcom CC on Wednesday for two in a row.
First things first, with the 1-0 victory at Whatcom Edmonds
CC improved to 8-4-1 overall, 6-4-1 in league play, good for third in the NWAC
North standings. EdCC currently holds a 6-point lead over fourth-place Whatcom
(4-8-1, 4-6-1).
The midway point to North play is on Saturday and it’s
important that the Tritons at least maintain their positioning in the standings
as only the top three teams from each region advance to the NWAC playoffs.
Earning her second shutout in as many games Wednesday was
EdCC keeper Alecia Longsine who saved eight Whatcom shots on goal.
Even with a steady defense and nearly double-digit saves,
the match looked like it was going to result in a 0-0 draw until the 84th minute when a Triton shot was saved by but bounced off Orca keeper Megan O’Keefe.
Edmonds forward Claudia Brasino was at the right place at the right time and
chipped in the deflection for the game’s lone goal from about eight yards out.
O’Keefe would register four saves in the loss.
Edmonds returns to Triton Field on Saturday after five straight games on the road. EdCC will host Skagit Valley starting at noon.
