Women's Soccer Opens Year with a Win

TUCKWILA, WA – Edmonds Community College women’s soccer defeated Walla Walla 2-1 Tuesday morning at Starfire Sports Complex. The win not only kicked off the 2014 season, it was the first for new head coach Brittney Beitel.

EdCC’s small squad of 14 players -- 11 of which are freshmen -- had the jitters early, however, allowing a Warrior goal by Oryian Matheny in the first minute of action.

The Tritons took the early hit and began to gather themselves, asserting control midway into the first half.  Edmonds had a couple of scoring opportunities before Keana King cashed in with a goal in the 34th minute of play to even the score at 1-1. Earning the assist was Olivia Olason.

The two sides would go into the break tied 1-all and that’s the way the score would stay until minute 80 when Hannah Longsine headed in the go-ahead shot off another header.

Both sides had chances but six saves from Warrior keeper Sasah Holt and five from Alecia Longsine would prevent any further scoring.

The Tritons will van down to Tukwila on Wednesday to take on Clackamas at 10:30 a.m.
