EdCC Softball Head Coach Takes Position at Walla Walla

LYNNWOOD (July 15) -- Shawna Juarez stepped down as softball head coach at Edmonds Community College on Tuesday to take the positions of head coach and academic adviser at Walla Walla CC.

“This was a difficult decision for me to make,” said Juarez, who is from Wenatchee Valley. “But I get the chance to work full-time and to be closer to my family and loved ones.”

Juarez led EdCC to a 9-17 overall mark in 2014, and the team was just one win away from qualifying for the NWAACC tournament. In addition, four Edmonds CC players earned NWAACC North All-Star honors: Arista Honey (1st team), Madisyn Napier (1st team), Mallori Cossell (2nd team) and Alex Deaver (2nd team).

“I will always carry a part of EdCC with me, as it taught me wonderful lessons, I met amazing young kiddos, and was affiliated with some of the best administrators and coaches in the NWAC,” stated Juarez. “I firmly know the direction of the program is headed in the right direction and will continue to blossom and grow.”

“Shawna did a great job of getting us some wins this year and setting softball on the right path,” said EdCC athletic director Jorge de la Torre. “We appreciate what she did for the program and wish her the best. Our loss is Walla Walla's gain.”

Edmonds CC softball competes in the North Division of the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC - formerly the NWAACC). The Tritons have won six division titles and appeared in 10 NWAACC championship tournaments, winning the crown in 1980.

“Combining our terrific on-campus facility and the positive steps we have taken in the last couple of years, it’s obvious that the softball program is on the rise,” said de la Torre. “The expectations are that EdCC softball will be competing for NWAC North titles in the very near future. The search for the next softball head coach will start immediately."
